Tlatelolco: Ancient ruins in the heart of the cityDating back at least 700 years, the pyramids and other buildings on this site belonged to the Tlatelolca, a pre-Columbian civilization contemporaneous to the Aztecs. You can wander around the well-preserved and well-documented excavation, which stands in the shadow of a centuries-old Spanish cathedral. These ruins recently made headlines when scientists working on the ongoing excavation there discovered a set of 49 human skeletons dating back to Tlatelolca times. The surrounding neighborhood is also quite pleasant, with many parks and interesting shops. Getting thereThe excavation site is just a few minutes' walk from the Tlatelolco Metro station. The adjacent cathedral is a helpful landmark. Visitor commentsNo postings yet. Yours could be the first! Post a new comment |
