Cheng Hoon Teng Temple

This 17th century Chinese Buddhist temple, the oldest in Malaysia, has been beautifully restored and is fascinating to wander through. In addition to the main temple, the grounds also contain a number of historical rooms. Among these are several collections of memorials to the dead, which are both beautiful and, in the case of those peppered with yellowing black-and-white photos, poignant.

As in most Chinese temples, visitors are welcome to wander around so long as they remove their shoes before entering the temple building, and don't disturb worshippers or enter the altar areas.
